Burger King's New 2-for-1 Homecoming Deal Is Perfect for Date Night, and Even Includes Two Crowns

Will you go to the dance with us? Circle Y or N.

The nighttime temperatures are steadily dropping, brightly colored leaves are starting to litter the sidewalks, and it’s impossible to leave literally any retailer without being tempted by pumpkin spice … everything. Autumn may not officially start until Saturday, but Homecoming Season is already here. And Burger King is here for it.

To help everyone celebrate — and we mean everyone, whether you’re a current student or haven’t walked into a school dance since the last century — Burger King is launching its first-ever BK Homecoming Meal, designed to make you and a friend feel like absolute royalty. The $10 meal-for-two comes with two Whopper Jr. sandwiches, two milkshakes, a small order of onion rings, a small order of French fries, and two Burger King crowns. (And let’s be honest: even actual royals perk up when they see a BK crown.)

The meal will be available nationwide at participating Burger King restaurants starting on Thursday, September 21. There’s also a special treat for BK regulars in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and Oklahoma City, as those cities are known for throwing some of the country’s biggest homecoming celebrations, the BK Homecoming Meals served in those locations will come with blinged-out limited-edition HoCo-themed crowns (while supplies last).

“For years, we’ve seen fans incorporate Burger King into their Homecoming traditions, using our iconic crown as part of their royal celebrations across the country,” Zahra Nurani, Burger King North America’s vice president of marketing communications, said in a statement. “We’re excited to get in on the celebration by offering a delicious meal for two that allows HoCo-goers even more ways to make BK a part of this special event.”

Although HoCo football games, dances, and other celebrations are the must-attend fall events at a lot of U.S. schools, colleges, and universities, the tradition reportedly started at the University of Missouri over a century ago — at least according to MUTigers.com

The outlet writes that in 1911, the annual Missouri-Kansas football game moved from its previous locations onto Mizzou’s Columbia campus for the first time. Missouri’s then-head football coach Chester L. Brewer encouraged Missouri alums to “come home” for the game — and over 9,000 of them did.

The enthusiastic supporters held a pep rally the night before the game, organized a “torchlight parade,” and cheered around a bonfire. Missouri claims that those events kickstarted the concept of “Homecoming” as we know it today.

It seems like they had most of the ingredients for a successful celebration … although who knows what would’ve happened if Burger King crowns were involved too?
