James Beard Awards Gala, which took place in Chicago on May 7, celebrated the chef and restaurant category of the prestigious food-industry awards. Carla Hall, of ABC's The Chew, hostedthe ceremony.

The theme of the awards was "Rise," which was "meant to celebrate the collective spirit of our community and the power of food," the JBF site reads. "Whether championing causes, committing to values, speaking up for those who can't be heard, or cooking their hearts out, our food community rises to meet the challenges, to complete the tasks, and to make this world a better, more delicious place for everyone."

Seattle's JuneBaby, which was a F&W Best Restaurant of the Year 2018, was named Best New Restaurant, making its founding chef Eduardo Jordan the first African-American chef in the Awards' 28-year history to receive the honor.
