Nature Naming Ceremony

A few weeks ago at Wren Circle we had a very special ceremony with all of the girls where they each got to choose a nature name. The girls, all together, were given the task of creating the sacred space for this ceremony, while the mentors created the “threshold” or entrance to the ritual space. Before entering the space each girl was given instructions on how the ceremony was going to be held and they were each blessed with sage and a magpie feather upon entering.

Once we were all seated in a circle, we could all feel that their usual bouncy excitement had transformed into a very peaceful, grounded energy. The girls had been instructed that these animals that they were about to receive were teachers and that spirit gives each of us just what we need, when we need it. As they each went up one by one to choose their name, they all followed the instructed procedure of taking three deep breaths before picking. Words can no longer describe what these next moments were like, but I think these photos will help! I could not help but put one photo of each child up, they are just too good! After all girls got a name, we all got the chance to guess and learn about what their animal was, as they acted it out for the whole group. It was touching as well as a blast, we hope that you enjoy these photos.
